The network of women’s libraries represents an attempt to connect all women’s libraries in Serbia. Modeled after the Women in Black Network and the Women Against Violence Network, the Women’s Library Network aims to encourage the merging of related initiatives across the country.
The goal of this initiative is twofold. We believe that in this way we will improve communication among women’s groups that publish their own publications, participate as co-publishers, or collect publications of other groups, building their own libraries. Such a Network keeps us updated on the editions we publish, and also enables us to organize their distribution and promotion outside our city. In this way, we rise the awareness of the publishing work of women’s organizations, establish prior knowledge and share it further, with new women who read books from “women’s libraries”.

There are many such libraries in Serbia, which were created by the efforts of numerous women who brought books, magazines and brochures from all parts of the world to their cities. Many of them wrote, translated or simply carried the materials, storing them in some common place that would be available to everyone in their city. The existence of such libraries is often unknown. The creation of the Network of Women’s Libraries should enable all students and activists to find this kind of literature in their local communities. The Women’s Library Network initiative is open in nature. This means that new libraries are constantly appearing and that old ones are constantly being enlarged. There is a place in the Network for all such libraries – both small and large, and those that place greater emphasis on literature and those that collect theoretical titles.
